FSU CHEATS

MERRY CHRISTMAS GATOR FANS

FSU scandal

Here's the St.Pete Times editorial begging Bowden to retire

Here's more from the Times about why FSU should withdraw from the Bowl

Here we pile on the villain from this years matchup. Is Geno Hayes really dumb enough to pull the 50 questions in five minutes with 100% accuracy?

While this mostly rehashes things already covered, Its enjoyable simply for the comparison of Jimbo Fisher to Fidel Castro.

The following videos are for a documentary about FSU football. Apparently they've been following the team around for the last two years (great timing). It appears to be very well made and I can see FSU fans getting excited about it, but just when I think its getting serious and making the team look impressive, they show a clip of Xavier Lee giving high fives or Bowden driving his golf cart to the top of the stadium so he can watch practice from 100 yards away, and I just bust out in giggles.

I'm Back

"Hey, kids, it's me!
I betcha thought that I was dead!
But when I fell over I just broke my leg
And got a hemorrhage in my head!"

Thats right kids, like the clown from Billy Madison, I'm back -

Football season is over -
while we all shed tears of great sadness about the end of the college football season, lets use this time to expand our horizons. Use our free time for good. We can now spend more time with family, maybe learn a new language, or volunteer at the local soup kitchen.... Ah who am I kidding, It just Hurts so bad-

"Leave me alone. I said get away from me you BUM. here, take these 'Italian made easy' tapes and my firstborn- teach him to beg so he won't go hungry. I just need to be alone... here in the corner... ahhh fetal position...

Wait there's still Bowl Games!

ah yes, the tradition above all other traditions. The glorious new years time when teams across the country go to random neutral locations and play for meaningless titles. Yeah, I know we were 'Outback bowl champs 2005' but I'm just not that proud of it. So get excited people- these are the reason we can't watch a college football playoff. I'm sure you understand why its way better this way.

AHHHHHHH, YOU MENTAL MIDGITS, I WANT MY PLAYOFF, AHHHHHHHHHHHH
-back to the fetal postions..... oh sweet sweet fetal position.

Heres your dose of weekly rediculi

Midweek Notes

Tebow has it locked up

This years Heisman race is like first and goal from the one. Tebow is a lock to put it in the endzone.

Check out the highlights

Meet the family

Heres the proof

more proof

See you guys Saturday for the coronation.

One more Tebow story:

You can add one more talent to Tebow's list - I was told this week that when Timmy goes to class he never sits in the same place. One day in the front, one day in the back, left, right, wherever. Well so does everyone else. If you track the patterns of where the rest of the students sit, they migrate towards Tebow. One day everyone will be in the front, then all in the back, whereever Tim goes, so goes the rest of the class. Ha - Human Magnet - add it to the list, right behind bulldozer and in front of baby rhino.

Two more years!!

Latest sign that FSU and Miami suck:

all-ACC team announced:
Defense: 1st Teams (1) Miami & (1) FSU
2nd Team (0) Miami & (0) FSU
Offense: 1st Team (0) Miami & (0) FSU
2nd Team (.5)Miami &(.5)FSU - they tied for the last OL spot
Special Teams: (1 drunk kicker) FSU

So thats a total of (2.5) for FSU and (1.5) for Miami
To compare: Maryland (3) - GaTech (8) - VaTech (7) - Virginia(4) - BC (7)- Clemson(6) - Wake (5) - UNC (4) - NCSt (2) - Duke (1)
Way to go guys, at least you beat Duke

Sunday Fallout: Special Edition

Missouri Loses
If we removed ourselves from this season and I told you a 10-2 OU team was playing Missouri for the B12 champ, You would have said it was a no-brainer, and you'd have been right. Chase Daniel played decent, but was no match for OU's talent loaded team.

West Virginia Loses
The bigger story from yesterday was the Mountaineers brainfart. This has to go down as one of the toughest losses any fan base has ever suffered... ever. West Virginia is a team that has been on the outside looking in the last five or six years. The Big East hasn't gotten the respect and neither have they. In fact, they have been on the outside their entire existance- the Neer's have never won a national title. The closest were good teams in the late 80's/early 90's. On Saturday, they were just 6o against a 4-7 team away from a winnable title game. On top of that, the 4-7 team was their biggest rival Pitt. These schools are only 70 miles apart and by all measures, hate each other as much as any two in America. Just a devastating set of circumstances to blow it, what a huge opportunity blown... and wow, did they blow it.

BCS Loses
All day Saturday I was torn on both late games, as to who I wanted to win. Either both win and make for a unique title game that excluded the Buckeyes, or both lose and bring about BCS pandemonium. But as the games were in progress I was clearly rooting for both to lose. Nothing against either team, I just hate the current system. Anything that would bring us closer to playoffs is good, anything. Not to mention the fact that if both lost, my prediction from 7 weeks ago would have been right. By the way- I WAS RIGHT. All personal glory aside, this is great for fans and bad for the BCS. I hope you die bowl championship series. Hope you die a horrible agonizing death.

LSU wins big
LSU is in, then out, then in, then out, now in again.... I think (we'll see tonite). Congrats to the Tigers on their SEC title... you lucky bast- I mean, I bet you guys feel pretty good about winning against a team like Tennessee. Ohh how I want another shot at LSU. You even avoided the Dawgs, who would have given the Tigers a better game than the Vols. But alas, it was not to be. Can't wait to see you next year in Gainesville.

-Two Loss Theory Reigns!
I had really given up hope three weeks ago. It wasn't "normal" football but upsets looked to be drying up. I came to the realization that to continue on pace required more and more luck each week. Back then, if 2 out of 14 teams lost it was OK, then it was 2 of 12, 2 of 10, etc. down to this week when we needed exactly two upsets in two games. Impossible in any normal season, but at 8 o'clock last night, Lightning struck twice just inches apart (poll wise).

-I even predicted that a one loss Kansas team doesn't have a shot.

-What is the difference between Kansas and Ohio State?
If both have the same record and conference record, and OSU won a title and Kansas didn't; then doesn't that mean OSU just has a weaker conference? Well yeah, the Big Ten is terrible. They also have comparable non-conference schedules. Sorry Kansas, tradition rules.
Who would have guessed a team from the Big Twelve north would rather play in the Big Ten?

-Tebow has a lock on the Heisman
Yeah, I can't see it any other way. White and Daniel played their way right out of it. It strange that injuries can't eliminate you from the race: White and Dixon; but they can also help win it: Shoulder contusion anyone? It's just Tebow and McFadden (That sounds like the scarriest backfield ever) left to fight over it. I think we'll see the first sophomore win it, while the guy who should have been the first sophomore ever looks on. Which is a real shame, It'd been neat to see McFadden pass on the trophy to Tebow. Instead it looks like a bias against RBs. And another guy joins the growing list of incredible athletes leaves college without winning the biggest award: Vince Young, Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald, Tommie Frazier.

-Double Brother QB name: Chase Daniel

Games of the Week: Finals Week

OU vs. Missouri - 8:00 ABC

Pitt vs. 2West Virginia - 7:45 ESPN

18Tennessee vs. 7LSU - 4:00 CBS

Root For:
LSU - cause I just hate the Vols
Missouri and W. Virginia to lose - cause It would bring about chaos and arguing
Missouri and W.Virginia to win - If I can't have both lose, They must both win. Just to spite OSU
UCLA, Arizona, Oregon State - cause if all three win, UCLA is Pac-10 champ, despite losing to Notre Dame and Utah, HA
Washington - cause Hawaii just isn't good enough to watch in the Sugar Bowl
Chase Daniel to suck - for Tebow's sake, also he eats boogers

Tubs to Arkansas?

Well we don't have any proof of it (just this news report from Arkansas, where you believe nothing and everything) and very little reasoning behind it (Arkansas isn't a step up, but Tubs is from Arkansas)
But Its time to get nervous Auburn Fans. A long weekend of nervous.

Pete Carrol Profile - I've always hated Pete Carrol. Thought he just landed in the right spot at the right time. But now I'm not so sure. Really, I'm not sure what I think - this article spins you in a ton of directions: He doesn't Sleep, Drink, Fear, or know where his keys are. He controls Thunder. He constantly smiles. He like to hang out in ghettos (seriously, he visits LA slums to meet and help out underprivileged kids- in the middle of the night). I was dumbfounded. Read it if you've got the time.

Every Tebow Touchdown

Yep, all 51.

Time to pick out your favorites

Mine:
(3:49)vs. Ole Miss - drags defenders in from the five
(1:20)vs. S. Carolina - meets to players at goalline and drives them backwards
(0:45)vs. FSU - dodges two defenders and scrambles through 4 more

Monday Fallout:

Who feels as good as me? cause I feel great. 45 to 12 ass woopin great

Game Notes:
-Tebow was unstoppable again. Right from the first drive, FSU had no answers for a player that has no equal. His stats were fantastic again (350 yards 5 TDs) but thats not why he's great. He leads an offense thats approaching unstoppable. We only punted twice, and those two pinned the Noles inside the five. He's a sophmore, he's only had twelve starts. After the game we joked how long the Gators might go next year before they have to punt, 3 games.. maybe four... but seriously, maybe those weren't jokes. I don't care if he doesn't win the Heisman, he should, but I don't need a bronze trophy to know I'm watching the best player in the country(definitely) ... best ever at Florida (maybe)... best ever, period (we'll see)
-Tebow Broke Hand a fact that is laughable at this point. When I heard last night, I told Kristen you'd have to break his leg to stop him, then I remembered In high school he played half a game with a broken leg. Like I said, he's approaching unstoppable.
-Not to be outdone, Percy Harvin was the rocket strapped to the back of Tebow's freight train. Coming off two weeks of migraines and infection, Percy was the perfect compliment to Tebow. Who would have guessed anyone could make the name "Percy" cool.
-Geno Hayes is a Loser. FSU's resident loudmouth made a whopping ONE tackle. I guess riding the opposing QB's back into the endzone doesn't count as a tackle.
-Favorite moment of the game - Early in the game, Geno "one tackle" Hayes got in Tebow face during a dead ball. A couple of TDs later, Tebow completes a pass with Hayes in his face, somehow Hayes ends up on the ground with Tebow standing over him. Tebow extends his hand to help Hayes up, Not surprisingly, Hayes rejects Tebow offer and goes on to make just ONE tackle.
-Caldwell chucks ball - maybe you saw Bubba's unsportsmanlike penalty after his TD. This was a salute to Carlos Alvarez. Caldwell broke his all time receiving record last week and wanted to go out the same way Alvarez did - By throwing the ball into the stands. For a final catch in the swamp, you can't get much better than that
-FSU highlight - a 60 yard field goal. Like Spurrier said "That's Ok, we don't kick too many of those"

BCS Top Ten

Missourri (1-1)
W.Virginia (0)
Ohio State (0)
Georgia (1-0)
Kansas (0-1)
VaTech (0-1)
LSU (2-0)
USC (0)
OU (1-0)
Florida (0-2)

I love how... Ohio State is solidly in third, there's not even a question of it.... VaTech is one spot above a team that beat them 48-7... OU will be favored by 3 over the #1 team... 5, maybe 6 teams would be favored over the #1 team... I still think Kansas is overrated... 1-5 wouldn't have a chance vs. 6-10... those numbers after the teams are their record versus each other, you can see how a few of those teams got to where they are (0)

Pop Quiz

Name two players on the #1 team in the country.
Ok, just tell me who the coach is.

Harder than you thought, right?

Two Loss Theory Lives! barely
The theory lives on to the last week of the year. However it lives in the very fragile and unstable hands of Pitt. If Pitt and Oklahoma pull off the "upsets" (I don't really consider OU an underdog to a team they already beat, but Pitt definitely) then chaos will ensue. Georgia is still first in line, and ahead of one loss Kansas (just like I said) The theory should die next week, but this year, I wouldn't be surprised. On that note, the best two loss team is LSU. Don't argue otherwise, they are 2-0 against top ten teams, 5-1 vs. top25 (with Tennessee's impending loss) and both losses are in triple overtimes. They should be #4 despite losing this weekend.

Wildfires break out across the country

Lets recap:
Michigan - Carr Out, for now Miles is safe at LSU. I hear Ferentz. what? Ferentz?
Ole Miss - Ogeron Out,
Texas A&M - Francione Out, Sherman In. whatever
GaTech - Gailey Out
Nebraska - Callahan Out, Turner Gill almost In

Arkansas - Nutt... Out? Despite having "Brought the Wood"

Happy Thanksgiving. In Gainesville it was Happy indeed.

This Video is awesome. It's like a compilation of everything awesome about the Gators.

Except for Jesse Palmer - hes a douche.

Check out the 6 second mark, its the "fake Blue" who was pictured on ESPN.com
Also, Near the end, is that Reggie Nelson with a flag wrapped around himself?

Happy Thanksgiving (execpt to you Noles)

Well Its that time of year. Some call it Rivalry week, some call it the border war, the civil war, the Iron Bowl, the Apple Cup?? (Pac 10 is so lame), Egg Bowl, Battle for the Boot, Bedlam... but Georgia and Georgia Tech probably have the most accurate title of all: Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.

Thats what this is all about. Not records or championships. Not players or coaches. Its about Hate. They hate you, but more importantly, you Hate them. You live with them and you hate. Hate it when they win. Hate it when they score. Hate it when they cheer. Hate their coach. Hate thier band. Hate thier colors. Hate their town. Hate their school. Hate. Its back there. Just simmering for most of the year. Time to bring out, turn up the heat. Let it boil.

Games of the Week - Pandemonium Reigns

OREGON GOES DOWN
-yes I stayed up to watch it. It was fantastic. Dixon injured early, changed the game. Cason scores two non offensive touchdowns. How big was that non-fumble replay review, How big were the other turnovers? Mike Stoops upsets another one late in the season. The Students rush the field before the game ended! How college is that? Best Post Game Celebration all year.
Go Wildcats (that'll be a recurring theme)

Tebow, the door is open.
Also, How's the "Two Loss Theory" look now?

UF vs. FAU 12:00

Is it FAU or FIU? Thats the question I've been asking all year - This week I have an answer. Surprisingly- it does matter. FAU is a .500 team on par with Troy with a legend for a head coach, FIU is apparently a high school team that wandered into the wrong stadium. Good luck getting anyone to care though. Last night I picked up the phone at 9:30, three and half hours after unclaimed student tickets went on sale, got right through and the voice on the other end almost begged me to buy more than the two tickets I wanted.
Watch for: Tebow to jump to the Heisman lead with 5 TDs... in the first half. (Did you hear Dixon is hurt?) Still no Percy, and bring on Cam Newton.
Gators in a SteamRoll

7Ohio State vs. 21Michigan 12:30 ABC
THE GAME OF THE CENTURY!!! haha, can you believe they called it that last year? This game isn't much more important than then. just Two teams fighting for the Big Ten championship, just before they get their teeth kicked in at the bowl game.
Watch For: Lloyd Carr to give his first and last emotional pregame speech and lead the Wolverines in an inspired upset at the Big House. Why? Its his last game, he's retiring.(anyone care? No? Ok... Later Lloyd, take it easy)
Michigan with gusto

23Kentucky vs. 9Georgia 12:30 LF
This one will keep the Gator crowd scoreboard watching for most of the game. Hopefully we can take off after the end of the third to watch Kentucky do us a favor.
Watch for: Kentucky to take a lead into the fourth, just as ninety thousand fans in Gainesville tune in and tip the karmic scales against themselves as UGA rallies for the W
Georgia struggles but prevails

1LSU vs. Mississippi CBS 3:30
Tigers travel to Oxford. Takin on the Rebels. Old school SEC. Miles is the coach.... I can't come up with anything interesting
Watch For: CBS's worst ratings of the fall
LSU bangs em down

Vandy vs. 20Tennessee 2:00
The Vols have control of their own destiny. What that really means is they have a lot of pressure to win. They may win, but it'll be ugly. Good thing this one aint on TV
Watch for: that pressure to catch up with them.... Next Week
Tennessee by a redneck ringer (thats three points to the horseshoe novice)

Big Twelve PuPu platter:

Iowa St. vs. Kansas 3:30
Missouri vs. Kansas St. 12:30
Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech 8:00 ABC
None of us like any of these teams. None of us watch their games. No one really cares.
Well too bad. There's three of em. they have easy games this week. They have they're own defacto playoff already set up. Barring a miracle, one of these three is playing for (and likely losing) the National Championship. So get used to it. I still say Oklahoma will ease into the big game.
Watch for: ?? you wont watch any of these

ESPN late night doubleheader:
West Virginia vs. Cincinnati 7:45 ESPN
Boston College vs. Clemson 7:45 ESPN2
On one channel you have W. Virginia's best chance to join the ranks of the two loss teams, and on the other, you have Tommy Bowden trying not to collapse at the end of the year again. Can two teams from cold miserable cities pull off the late night fireworks? I say yes
Watch For: Matt Ryan and BC to pass all over an out-coached Tiger secondary. Pat White and UWV to play hot potato with the Cincy D. I smell Turnovers, and the mountaineers are cooking. (I'll have an apple one, thanks)

State of Florida PuPu Platter
Maryland vs. FSU 12:00 channel4?
Miami vs. 10VaTech ABC 3:30
Why are both these games on TV? and what is UPN doing broadcasting college football? If anyone is interested in what a car wreck looks like in slow motion, tune in. I wonder if VaTech will even break a sweat?
Watch For: Napoleon Dynamite to lead the turtles to a road win. And Kyle Write to throw three TD passes... to VaTech Defenders.

-Also, Hawaii is losing tonite. Chalk it up. Brennan can't rebound from that hit in six days. No way.

Wacky Bowl Projections

Every preseason some random dudes sit down and try to pick the bowl projections for the coming year. Every year those guys are wrong.

Its the hardest thing on earth to predict. Harder than the NCAA brackets. Harder than the Lotto. Harder than Keno. Harder than the movement of electrons.

Even as the season draws to a close, with only 3 weeks left, Its still nearly impossible to get these things right. So instead of predicting, I'm bringing you possibilities. Heres a list on the most intriguing bowl match-ups that maybe possibly might could reasonably happen. Broken down by team

Lets start with everyones favorite Juggernaut: Florida
Best Case: Sugar -- Worst: Outback
Most Likely: Capital One
Florida vs. Hawaii - Sugar Bowl
this one isn't likely (I think UH will lose) but it'd be the first of two game in a row between these two. UF opens next year with a home game vs. the Warriors
Florida vs. Illinois - Capital One Bowl
The Zooker gets a crack at his old school. This would suck for so many reasons, Losing would be the ultimate embarrassment, and winning gets you nothing. Fortunatly, I remember what a Ron Zook bowl game looks like - Gators would have no problem
Florida vs. Ohio State - Capital One
This is really just on OSU loss to Michigan on the road away from happening. I'm all for it, and not because I like beating OSU (but I do) - there is really no downside to this game. We lose so what, "can't beat us when it counts" - Win and its "Haha, we still own you" especially after we beat them in Basketball again this Christmas.

South Florida
Best Case: Gator -- Worst: Papa Johns
Most Likely: Meineke
USF vs. FSU - Meineke Car Care Bowl
Please let this happen. FSU officially worse than USF, what could be better? Please let this happen

FSU
Best Case: Gator -- Worst: Humanatarian
Most Likely: Meineke
-FSU vs. USF - Meineke Car Care Bowl
Please, Please, Please
-FSU vs. Penn St. - Champs Sports Bowl
The Elderly Coach Bowl resumes this year, only in a slightly less prestigious arena.

Miami
Best Case:Emerald -- Worst: None
Most Likely: None
With games vs. VaTech and BC remaining, Miami doesn't look to be going anywhere

Auburn
Best Case: Cotton -- Worst: Liberty
Most Likely: Cotton
Its one or the other - AU vs. UA -the winner gets the Cotton, the Loser gets shamed in the Liberty bowl
Auburn vs. UCF - Liberty
Auburn would complete the tour of florida with this lame matchup. Could Auburn lose to two Florida schools this year, and neither be UF?

UGA
Best Case: don't laugh - BCS championship -- Worst: Peach
Most Likely:Sugar
I've been preaching the two loss theory since mid season, and the beneficiary if it comes to fruition would be the dawgs. All it takes is a loss by Tennesee, Oregon, OSU, and W. Virginia. At that point the SEC and B-12 Championship Games become a defacto playoff. (More on this later)
But still not likely. Lose twice to UK and GaTech and its a home game in the Peach Bowl.

Other Interesting Possibilities:

Oklahoma vs. Oregon - BCS National Championship
A Repeat of last years game that was marred by poor officiating. Makes for Good Television.

Oklahoma vs. LSU - BCS National Championship
A three way virtual tie between LSU/OU/Oregon is decided by the BCS poll. Oregon is the big loser. The winner - Karma - Oregon pays the debt for the aforementioned screw job to OU.

Michigan vs. Oregon - Rose Bowl
If Michigan beats Ohio State and Oregon is the odd duck out of the big game, The pompous Rose Bowl would be contractually obligated to bring you the worst Bowl Game of the year. A rematch of a blowout (a home blowout at that). If Michigan wins, its either this or
USC vs. Michigan - Rose Bowl
a rematch of last years terrible Rose bowl. Suck it Rose Bowl guys! Go Michigan!

Monday Fallout: Sweet Relief

Relief. Sweet Relief. Beating the ole ball coach is not so much a victory as it is just a relief.

Now I know how Georgia felt that one time.

And what a relief it was:

Game Notes -

Tebow is the best thing I've ever seen. He's the Best Player in college football. The Best. I'm biased, thats a given, but this statement is beyond bias, Its stupid to argue anything else. He's the Best player on the field Period. (Is the actual Period after the word "Period" redundant?)
The Gators aren't a tripod at all. Rather they are a solid monument rising 1000 miles straight out of the earth, made of adnamantium with a million pound lead foundation. And Tebow is the entire structure. Not to diminish the work done by Caldwell/Fason/James/etc. but Tebow could line up with Ten 6th graders and still whoop Carolina's D. And yes I did just diminish the work done by the rest of the team.
-The rest of the team is good. Despite people trying to diminish the work of the rest of the team in light of Superman at QB, The rest of the team is full of playmakers even without the #1 playmaker
-Atlanta chances diminish. While Sat. Night was great, The rest of the day was a disappointment. But thats what I get for rooting for Arkansas and Auburn. Way to go you two, LSU just clinched the west with two games left and one loss. Our only hope: Kentucky. Yep, and on any other year that would make this a very bleak situation. But Kentucky can score points and that makes em dangerous on any given Saturday. My prediction: Georgia in the Title game and the Gators in the Citrus vs. the Zooker.

More Weekend notes -

Video request here at TRL - the 15 lateral superplay:

Kickball is Awesome. Thanks to everyone who came out Sunday, Especially the losing team, who gave up 8 runs in the 9th inning just BEFORE the sun went down. Apparently theres a league starting up at Bray, sign ups end next week. We're getting a team together, So anybody who want to play give me or Molly a call.

Not what you want your QB to do- Brennan is decapitated

Two loss theory: Still on pace after a huge loss by OSU (way to go Zook, keep that nonsensical coach-speak coming) and a second in a row by BC.
Teams that still Have to Lose: LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, W.Virginia, ASU, and OSU.
Thats Seven losses needed left(one team can have one loss) with 2 automatics (Kansas vs. Missouri and winner vs. OU) So five total in three weeks. Still well within reach.
Best chances left: OSU vs. Michigan, W. Virgina @Cincy/UConn, ASU vs. USC, OU vs Okie St., LSU vs. East Champ, Oregon vs. Oregon St./UCLA

Spurrier

His name is Stephen Orr Spurrier.

He's the biggest icon in Florida football history. It may seem obvious now, but even before his coaching career he was the biggest icon in Florida athletics. At a school where football historically underachieved, we had few heroes, the greatest was a QB from Johnson City Tennessee. He didn't need a coaching career to make it onto the ring of honor, he's got a bronze trophy to prove it. Actually, he doesn't even have that trophy, upon receiving it he immediately gave to the university. If you went back to 1989 and asked who was the biggest name in school history, It would have been him. He is Florida football. In 1990 the favorite son returned to his alma mater. What transpired next wasn't just storybook, it was epic.

Spurrier changed everything about Florida football. He changed the culture. Florida went from doormat to dominant. He changed the atmosphere. Gator fans went from "wait till next year" to "wait till this year." He changed the way people played football. The "fun and gun" was the most copied playbook in America. He changed the record books. A team that had no titles went on to win 6 and also the big one. He changed the Conference image. SEC football went from smashmouth to dropjaw. He changed the name of the stadium. Yep, he's the one who coined "the Swamp". And the size of the stadium. Two additions were either completed or conceived during his tenure. He changed The Pride. The Gator fans went from lovable loser to the most hated in all the country- and your damn right we're Proud of that. He changed everything.

Steve Spurrier is Florida Football

For those tired of the history lesson, let me get to the point. This transformation of the Gator football program happened at the exact same time as another transformation - Mine. They say your allegiances are formed during your formative years, from age ten to fifteen. For those doing the math thats 1992-1997. I was raised a Florida football fan, but that doesn't completely explain it. It was like a perfect storm of sports and adolescence. While the rest of Gator Nation looks back on those years fondly remembering this win or that loss, I look back and remember everything. Just this past week I recalled the exact location I watched almost every big loss in the past 15 years. While other kids had typical middle school fights and romances, I had Florida football. I didn't cry over girlfriends, I cried after the Nebraska game. Sad I know, but no middle school girlfriend brought anyone the joy of 52-20 either. In short, life's circumstances have made Florida football mean a lot to me, and not just Florida football but Steve Spurrier's Florida Football.

Spurrier abandoned Mother Florida. After years of happiness, his restlessness got the better of him and bailed on the marriage. He left behind everything: the House he built, the Fans he raised, and the school he pulled out of the trailer and took to the Big Dance.

In January 2002 I was on vacation in Colorado. It was our first day, and the entire trip was ruined. Without warning, the beloved father of the Gators had up and left. Gator Nation went through the typical stages of grieving. Denial - quickly disappeared with the constant SportCenter updates. Anger - Some Gators never got past this stage, citing reasons of bad timing and no warnings, they stayed angry at the man who brought so much joy. Bargaining - We thought maybe we could replace him with Stoops and continue on. Depression - oh the Depression of that Spring. Acceptance - around the time they announced Zook as head coach, it all became real. We were moving on, and not necessarily in a good direction. But we were willing to forgive the departing hero. Going to the NFL is a forgivable offense. It was his life, If he wanted to move on - so be it.

In the Fall of 2004 everything changed again. The Gators were languishing through another mediocre season with no signs of improvement. Meanwhile the Ole Ball Coach was enjoying a season off. Having quit after two underachieving seasons in the pros, Spurrier was getting familiar with the more well-known fairways across the country. The firing of Zook couldn't have come at a better time. It appeared to set up for a glorious reunion. The first few weeks had names flying around as to Zook's replacement, but the number one on any Gator fans list was Spurrier. Some will tell you this isn't true, they harbored resentment, said that we wanted someone who would stick around, a younger face to build on. But truthfully, every Gator fan wanted him back, wanted to return to the glory days. It was not to be. The bigwigs never offered him the job, and Spurrier therefor withdrew his name. Weeks later Meyer was our guy and Spurrier was inking a deal with the enemy.

Mother Florida is hurt though. She struggles through a rocky rebound relationship, looking for a provider for the family. Meanwhile Spurrier is quickly tired of city life and that Stripper in Washington. After three years of trying times, both are looking for a fresh start. At this point the children are divided. Some hate father Steve and have serious abandonment issues. Other are willing to forgive and forget. But their relationship was never perfect, and when Spurrier left the cuts were too deep to just forgive let him back in her life.

The views of Gators fans at this juncture were widely varied. He provoked a lot of emotions, which are unfamiliar to the typical college football fan, and led to a lot of unusual reactions. The extremes ranged from pure hatred to completely abandoning the Gators to follow the rabbi. At this point, these reactions can be put into two groups. The Haters - Some fans really never forgave Spurrier for the way he left. It is true: he left with no warning, a vulnerable time in recruiting, with a number of holes in the roster. So that was strike one. Then in 2004 these people openly rooted against re-hiring citing long term goals, and have since been vindicated with our recent success. But what moved this group from annoying few to an understandable contingent was when Spurrier signed with South Carolina. This was viewed as an unforgivable sin, and universally it is viewed as such. This move was strike two three four and five for many people. Carolina was an SEC foe, worse yet, they were in our division - an every year opponent. When these people express their hatred to me, I can understand- He deserves hate for this move. But think about it - Would you expect any less from this guy?

The Second group of fans is the Apologist. Each of Spurrier's moves was an knife in the heart, but each one had its reasoning. When he left we eventually forgave him and even rooted for the unfortunately colored Washington team. Who wouldn't want to try your luck in the pros? When we didn't immediately hire him, He had every right to be pissed. We were pissed too. Who do you think you are not hiring me back? But when he signed with USC that was still a low blow to all of us. Ok, maybe he was pissed about the snub, maybe it was a great situation (in the south, following his buddy Holtz) - But dammit, just dammit. At first, logic dictated we all join the hate group. How could he do this to us? But come opening weekend 2005, The Gamecocks played a Thurday night game vs. Mississippi St. and it wasn't two minutes into the game that all the old feeling came back. Our hate held no real bearing, it was a forced thing. This was our coach, you couldn't help but root for him.

So She moves on, Shes found Meyer and he's adopted the fans and the family traditions. Hes everything Florida needs. But Spurrier can't stay away. When rejected by Florida, he pretends not to care and immediately starts dating Florida's sister. South Carolina, a homely looking woman, has long settled for lesser men with no jobs or terrible lisps. Spurrier buys her a boob job and the two move in to a house on the same street as His ex, Carolina has never been happier. Unfortunately for Mother Florida's children, the whole gang has to get together every holiday and pretend that its OK. Some Kids hate him and make jokes about him being a "cock", they also like to talk loudly about how great "new" dad is. Hes younger and stronger and has won just as many "father of the year" awards. But some of us kids still wonder. Wonder what could have been. What it'd be like to have him back.... I bet it'd be great.

Games of the Week: Hell Week

This weekend was circled on the calendar long ago. For most of the country the circle was for the potential semi-final for the national championship game. Thats right, two months ago two of these games were supposed to be two of the biggest this year. That circle has long since been erased. Try and pick them out now, go ahead, I'll wait.... .... Ok, did you get em right? Lots changed I know, only one of those four team still has a shot. However, this weekend was circled by myself for a much different reason, A reason that no amount of losses would erase. Its time for the worst game on the UF schedule. Prepare the Bomb shelter: Drinks, check; Food, check; big screen, check; stack of cheap ceramic dinnerware that make a fantastic noise when smashed, check; cyanide, check -

For Non-Gator fans, if there are any out there, Its still a healthy dose of quality college football -

Louisville @ 7West Virginia - Thursday 7:30
The Thursday matchup we've been waiting for all year... wait what happened to Louisville? really... to Syracuse?... and Utah? How many points? Ok... Ok. Well maybe we should save some time and get the record books out early. I'll start the fire, you just hand those books to Mr. Slaton and Mr. White. Go ahead guys toss em in.

Illinois @ 1 OSU 3:30
Think the Zooker has a shot? I want to. I want think anyone does against OSU. But what would this story be like without a villain. OSU cruises at home again. Bring on Michigan and after that a hearty beat down to end it for the Bucks. Looks like the best argument for making your schedule tough is so you don't suffer through this.

LSU/OU vs. Cupcake
Oooooh delicious cupcakes

4Kansas @ Okie St.
Speaking of Cupcakes - Mangino hungry

FSU @ 11VaTech 3:30 ABC
Back to reality for the Noles. This atmosphere made Matt Ryan look like a chump for 57 minutes. I expect Weatherford to go the full 60

USC vs. Cal 8:00 ABC
Remember about a month ago when this was gonna be "Game of the Year"

The SEC lineup -
Here where my saturday starts and ends. Three games, each with championship implications for the Gators, in perfect succession, each more important than the one before. Don't bother me, for your own safety, don't bother me.

Arkansas vs. Tennessee 12:30 LF
Tennessee's porous D gets a taste of the best player in the country, or more likely, the game will end and the D will have no idea what McFadden taste like or even looks like up close. With UF awaiting losses by both Tennessee and UGA, Run DMC Run

18Auburn vs. 10UGA 3:30 CBS
Logically, of the three outcomes I need to happen, I'm least confident in this one. Auburn has let me down before, and they'll let me down again. Lets hope its not on Saturday, Come on Auburn, you Owe us one.

UF vs. South Carolina 7:45 ESPN
I won't even waste your time with any analysis. Despite rhetoric to the contrary, this game is still about a Team vs. their old coach. If you want reasoning that we haven't put this Spurrier thing behind us, think about this, If USC wins- how would you describe it? What would be the headline in the paper? Thats right - It'd Read "Spurrier beats Gators". It is THE story, It will be THE story, there is no getting around it. He's the greatest thing we've ever had, and now hes on the other sideline. Like watching your smokin hot ex girlfriend on the arm of another guy, even if you've got another younger prettier woman, and She's dating a no talent loser with their collar popped, It still makes you uncomfortable. Now the four of you have to go on a double date to some sleazy bar and your ex challenges your new girlfriend to a match in the jello wrestling pit.... Except its not sexy at all.

It sucks

Monday Fallout: Time for Hell Week

What a difference a Vandy game Makes. -Right on Cue, The Gators have a confidence building game and suck me right back in. Title hopes are alive and well in Gainesville. Most likely to the detriment of us all. The Masochist in me can't wait to find out which of the thousand possibilities will blow this for the Gators.

And what this?
Oh, its time for the worst game on the schedule? Thats right, a road game in Columbia. The Travel, the Cold, the Crowd, their Defense, their running game, our injuries, the implications, the--- Well I could go on, cause there's a lot of things about this game that will suck, A lot of reasons to be nervous. and before you try and tell me how they're a team thats reeling from a string of three losses, and their D is giving up yards, and they don't have a solid #1 QB, and any other factor that may lean our way - Theres only one reason that matters this week, and no I'm not overstating it, Its real, It sucks, Its ... Its.. him.

This game sucks because of one man.

Onto the Notes
Weekend Notes:

Gator Game -
-Tebow -Harvin -Caldwell our offensive tripod. Please keep em healthy, without one we fall on our face.
-Mike Pouncy is our hero. Converted O-lineman is talk of the town.
Overheard last Monday:
Strong "Hey we got some guys hurt. You have any 300 lbs dudes just standing around?"
Addazio "Yeah, I got a couple guys you could use"
Mattison "Ohhhh, you got a couple guys, thanks for the help, maybe next time you could let us know earlier!"
Addazio "Oh no problem Greg, Anytime"
Strong "I think he was being sarcastic... -hey, Greg put down that lead pipe - Greg!"

Pats/Cots - Well thats what I get for rooting for Peyton Manning. Who knew the Defenses would be that effective? We all knew their Offenses were good, but Do they have the two best D's in the league too? The Pats have looked light years ahead of the rest of the League. At least they aren't Light years ahead of everyone. Well, time to sit and wait for the AFC championship in January - The only game left that matters.

-Down Goes BC - hard to find joy in any FSU victory, but if I must: -Take that Boston!, you may dominate everything else, but you'll never have the crown jewel of the South: College Football. Also, Syonara Matt Ryan Heisman talk, just in time for Darren McFadden (clearly the most talented/freak of nature) to break the SEC rushing record and take the lead in the race to the meaningless bronze hunk of crap.

Jimmie Johnson back 2 b.... : Nascar fans - How much do you hate Jimmie Johnson right now? He back in the #1 spot and is running better than he has all year. You hate him more than Gordon? Feel free to tell me why. Any reasons that don't involve your homosexual fantasies about the Hendrix teammates will be the first.

-Two Loss Theory - On a day when this theory could have died, BC drops an easy one at home, keeping us on track(barely. 6 more in 3 weeks). Next Week : Go Louisville, Illinois, Okie St., and Texas A&M

Also
- Adrien Peterson =Rediculous, but Peterson vs. McFadden, Who ya got? -- LSU #2 is OK with me but maybe they should start playing like it -- Oregon just three easy wins away, yeah easy wins -- Ohio State beats another crumy team, Good for them -- Kansas romps, think they'll finally get respect? Nah, me neither --

Self-Pity: Come Wallow with me

It just seems to be that kind of week. I'm so bummed about the Gators. But at least I'm not alone:

25 worst Gator Losses since 1991

This article just about nails every game. I'd rank the 2003 and 1994 FSU games higher, #3 over #2, and the '05 South Carolina game was much worse than #21, maybe top five. It also covers the exact stint of my recollection. I can remember almost every game and where I was - I attend half, lets see - Living Room, Doak, Swamp, the Kenedy's, home w/ babysitter, living room, Grandmas, Swamp, Bar in St.Augustine, Garage, Swamp/living room, Swamp/Swamp, Orange Bowl, Apartment/Swamp, Mike's room - Wrestling, living room, living room, Neyland, ? on thursday night- probably in bed - I was 10, Swamp, Living Room, living room, Raymond James, Nintendo Room, outside Alltel. So bring the Kleenex or Booze - whatever gets you through this stuff and relive the days of agony.

Hope tomorrow brings better things

Games of the Week

Games of the week -
Heres the Teams with a Shot @ the BCS NC Game

21Wisconsi @ 1 OSU 12:00 Big Ten Network?
OSU continues its boring march to the Championship with only 3 games left - Haven't I seen this before? How did it turn out last time?

FSU @ 2BC 8:00 ABC
With 5 games lefts, I still think there's two losses in this BC team. I just hope its not this one

3LSU
@ Bama 5:00 CBS
The Hate bowl - LSU hates Saban, I hate him, You hate him, the Dolphins hate him, His players hate him, His mom hates him.. The only way LSU could hate him more is if he wins on Saturday, Not Likely- his team did lose to FSU, and their only quality win was over the schizophrenic Tennessee team -

4ASU @ 5Oregon 6:40 ESPN
Game of the Week
- Why does Oregon play all their tough games at home? I hope the ASU joy ride ends in Eugene

TA&M @ 6Oklahoma 8:00
Oklahoma still has the easiest path to 12-1, besides OSU - who will end up 12-1

Nebraska @ 8Kansas 12:30
While we all complain about OSU's weak schedule, at least the pollsters got Kansas right, 8-0 and still #8 in all the polls. Itll be 9-0 with no improvement to strength of schedule.

9Missouri @ Colorado 6:30
Missouri is the forgotten team of the bunch, so you can forget about this game

Update on the Two Loss Theory
One Eliminator game and 6 potential upsets this week. Were still on track and only 7 upsets away. Here what we need: OSU has just 3 left- not likely 2 L's - so pencil em in, BC has 2 L's in em with 5 remaining, LSU has the SECCG, OU/Kan/Missou - just need one upset by the B-12 conference champ, W. Virginia's got 3 conference toss-ups, and the Oregon/ASU winner need to drop one to a UCLA-ish team. Tough but believeable.

-First 2-banger in Line: Georgia... wtf, how did they get to #10? Did everyone forget they crapped the bed @ Tennessee? and squeaked out the Vandy win? Who's next in line? ... Michigan. ah crap, forget it, no two loss team deserves it. (actually, if say LSU lost this week to Bama, and still won the SEC or OU did likewise, they'd be ahead of these other clowns. also, a USC team that wins out would be ahead too)

And then Our Game:
Vandy @ UF 12:30 LF
Oh the lack of importance. Someone tell me how close we still are to something of meaning. Whats that? Championship game? We could still go?

Its really not that far fetched. We need Tennessee to drop a game, which will most likely happen (they are schizophrenic), to Arkansas or Vandy or@Kentucky. And Georgia to drop one too, with Kentucky and Auburn left, thats not asking a lot.

-But here's how it goes down, go ahead mark my words,
Tennessee loses to Arkansas in two weeks (Yah! one down) Then we spend the next three hours(these games are back to back on Nov. 8, right before doomsday in Columbia) rooting for Auburn to Beat Georgia. Auburn, historically a goat when we need them to beat somebody, miraculously pulls out a win on their final drive with a 54 yard field goal in pounding rain (the first water Georgia has seen in 7 months). These results give the Gators a second chance at a title shot, reminiscent of the SEC CG last year, the news flys around the locker room just minutes before kickoff. An overzealous Gator team then proceeds to give up a 28-10 halftime lead. UF fans, with their hopes dashed at the hand of the Ole Ball Coach tear their clothes and mourn in the streets, meanwhile back in the gator locker room, the coaching staff suddenly figures out a way to stop the Cocks - Bench Kyle Jackson and Tony Joiner for Major Wright and Tim Tebow.... Just kidding - But in the second half the Gators play inspired football and win 31-28. Gator fans celebrate while planning trips to Atlanta. The three way tie for first put the Gators in the Championship game for a rematch with LSU.

Just one problem
On November 24, just seven days before the Championship game, Gator nation hunkers down in front of the television to do the unthinkable - Root for the Tennessee Volunteers. Yes the Vols must win their final game against Kentucky. The see-saw battle keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. With just 7 seconds left, Down 30-31, Tennessee is at the Kentucky18 yard line. they send out the kicking unit. As the ball is snapped the holder gets up and catches the snap, only to take a knee - running out the clock, losing the game. As an F.U. to the Gators the Vols have lost on purpose -- no not really, but they do miss the field goal and lose. thereby making it a two way tie between Florida and Georgia. UGA having the tie-breaker, goes to Atlanta and loses by 40 to LSU. The End

So go ahead Vandy - put me out of my misery (by misery, i mean the great joy i get from making up ridiculous scenarios which keep me up at night and buoy my hope for championship glory)

New Mascot for the Sandwich

Doesn't this photo just scream: "Go Gators"

Monday Fallout - Dawg days of Fall

-Well you can't win em all.
Like the drunk guy at the Landings says "The Cat doesn't always catch the Mouse" - "Every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut" - "If you always caught fish, they'd call it 'catching' not 'fishing'" - "Even Bush sounds smart sometimes" - "A stacked deck still has two Jokers" - "Even Georgia wins sometimes"

Game Notes -
-All the weapons in the world won't help you without a Defense. We're like France, everyone knows we have 'nukes but no one is afraid.
-The celebration after the first TD- I'm not angry and I don't think it was "classless", I just don't get it. It shouldn't have anything to do with the outcome, If players need this to get fired up to play in the Florida-Georgia game then something else is wrong.
-Garbage

-Jax is still a good time
Despite the loss and the rain, I still had fun this weekend. (unfortunately that has become a reoccurring theme).

-The Landings is an Anomaly
Every year the party at the FloridaGeorgia game moves to the Jacksonville Landings as soon as the sun goes down. For those that have never been, the Landings is a Mall. A lousy Mall, without any decent shops, A sleazy dance club, a food court with five chinese food counters and a Sbarros, and a few restaurants headlined by Hooters. But its got a great location- Waterside, within walking distance of downtown and the game - and a Courtyard, thats the exact size to fit a band, twelve makeshift bars and everyone looking for a party after the game. I'm not sure how this place makes money 363 days a year, but on Friday and Saturday night its the perfect host.

-I need a new backpack - pink just isn't my color

-A Gator Sandwich salute to Daniel for the Jean Shorts

-Boston is the America of America.

With the Sox second pennant, BC #2, Garnett in a Celts Uni, and the Patriots attempting to make the rest of the NFL irrelevant, Boston is on top of the sports world. If you ever wondered why most of the world hates America, well its kinda the same as how you feel about Boston right now. For the past few years, you felt good about the first Patriot Super Bowl and The first Sox title. Kinda like support for the Revolution and the World Wars, but that positive underdog feeling has left you over the past two years. Now you see a Boston led world of sporting dominance on the horizon and you hate everything about the town, to the point that you'd root for China (New York Yankees)or France (Indianapolis Colts) or North Korea (Pheonix Suns) or the Taliban (FSU) to end their run.

Did you miss me?

UF - Kentucky Breakdown

Tryin something new. Normally I don't go too deep into any games, I just write superficial crap that everybody will be talking about. But this post is all UF-Kentucky, every aspect, by the end you'll be really bored, think I'm a moron and ready for a kick-ass football game.

Gator Offense-
the Gator Offesnse has been centered around one guy, and it rides the highs and lows of this one guy every possession. ESPN ran a little stat about players having the highest percentage of plays run through them, and Tebow was like fourth in the country. This list included Texas Tech's QB who throws like 70 times a game, and a couple of option QBs. The fact that we run a semi-conventional offense and still put 70% of the plays in Tebow's hands is amazing. He literally runs a one man play action passing game. and This was working fine until the Ole Miss game, when John Thompson, of all people, figured he'd give up the short yardage passes and stuff the middle, and it worked. It's the formula everyone will run against our speedy receivers and elusive QB, cause it works. Mullen didn't know what hit him in Oxford and ended up running the ole QB draw 20 times to get out alive. Auburn was the same crap and led to this graphic featured on the CBS broadcast. I think we did much better in the LSU game, we ran the ball (we have a running back?) right at their big D-line and had success. I disagree with those that think Moore isn't that good, I think Kestahn Moore has shown a lot of promise this year and had a great game up until that fumble. Hes been fast and elusive (two things he hasn't' been in years past). More Moore would be a welcome thing tomorrow. Meanwhile, we're finally at full strength at receiver now that Bubba is back. But I don't think his return is a cure-all though. He's a great receiver but so are a few other guys on this team, and Im gonna say something that hasn't been said much, I don't think the lack of diversity in the passing game is the receivers fault. I think its' Tebow's fault - What?!?! Tebow at fault?? while I can't confirm this - I'd need to see a game through the coach's camera to tell - He might be locking on his number one option during alot of plays. This isn't awful though, plenty of young qb's do this and he'll get better. But needless to say, I'd like to see the ball spread around a little more than it has been.

Kentucky's Defense
They've been pretty suspect to this point in the season, Giving up nearly 400 yrds/game. They give up tons of yardage on the ground. Both LSU and Arkansas went over 250 yards. But most of all, they're susceptible to the running QB. Flynn had 50 yards running, and Tebow had a breakout game last year, going for 70 yards at 12 yards a carry. Last year, if its any indication , the Gators ran for well over 200 yards on the ground, and D. Wynn had a rare 100 yard rushing day. The secondary on the other hand is only giving up less than 200 a game, with 10 picks - twice what UF has.

Matchup
This one favors UF on paper. On paper Uf's offense is favored against most teams, but the point totals haven't matched the teams potential. The playmakers haven't stepped up lately, with the exception of Tebow. But I think Meyer and Mullen, with the week off, will have a great game plan for the Cats D. With plenty of plays going through Tebow, and hopefully a more noticeable run game, the Gators should walk up and down the field at least a few times. I hope the coaches don't get impatient though (they did vs Auburn). Kentucky is going to allow us to run the ball and make the short yardage throws, but if we get impatient and try to throw it down field too much it could be trouble for the gators. The Gators have shown that they can be rattled in clutch situations lately too, and this is another road game in slightly different weather, with a jacked up crowd. Lets hope they've learned from the last two games and can string together a few plays down the stretch, when it matters.

Kentucky's Offense
Heisman candidate Andre' Woodson has looked great though the first seven games. Hes consistent, spreads the ball around, hard to sack, and a good leader. The knocks on Woodson are few and his lack of scrambling might be his only weakness. He's got a great #1 wideout in Kenan Burton too. The run game looked good against LSU despite being down to the #3 tailback. With those guys still out, we'll get more of Derick Locke tomorrow.

Gator Defense
At this point I'm not sure what the Gators D is good at. With a lot of young talent, the Gators have potential to really good. They are really good... just only on first and second down. I just hope the two losses have matured the young guys and now they know what it takes to finish a game. You have to go a little harder on third and short, and even harder still on Fourth down. They've got the secondary to cover these recievers, and until LSU looked like a good team against the run. The real problem comes in getting pressure on the QB without sending a ton of blitzes. We just haven't done it.

Matchup
So the advantage is there for Woodson. He'll probably get a good amount of time to throw or have a blitzing defender to expose. The UF secondary has showed promise and can cover UKs recievers, but pressure on the QB will be hard to come by. The UK O-line played great against LSU, a team with a much more talented D-line. However, the run should be trouble for Kentucky. The Gators have been good against the run, with the notable exception of LSU... on fourth down. So its up to the UK coaches to find a weakness, and really they shouldn't have too much trouble, I'm just not sure what I'd tell em. This D is still a work in progress. I just hope someone has finally told the UF Defense how to make a turnover, or a tackle short of the marker when its third or fourth down.

Intangibles
-Gators have history on their side. Kentucky hasn't won for two whole decades. Heres a look at recent games. Kentucky has a chip on their shoulder b/c of this though.
-Injuries favor the Gators, we're just getting everyone healthy, meanwhile UK is without its top two tailbacks. The -Home Crowd should be racuous, well as racous as UK gets. Gameday is in town for the first time and this is the biggest game since, well ever, unless you count last week. But This week is different because the fans now have Hope. and Hope is a powerful thing for these hillbillies.
-The turnovers should favor the Cats. The Gators have shown no desire to take the ball away, but not by much, because the Gators aren't to eager to give it up either.

Implications
For Kentucky, a loss would be the end of the ride. Back to reality, for a good but not great team. It funny that a week after the biggest win in program history, they have a shot at, If not topping it, matching it. A win would put them in a good position to make it to Atlanta (but not a guarantee) for a rematch with LSU. For UF, three losses in a row would be devastating. This young team needs to know that it's very close to zero losses, and they need to learn what it takes to win. To finish a game and win on the road. A win and its time to think about Atlanta again. But not for long, we still got UGA and the Cocks. So not much of an upside, the Gators are Just Supposed to win.

Hope for The Two Loss Team

I've gone on record as saying a two loss team will play for the title. I've gotten a lot of strange looks and even now some of you are scoffing out loud at your computer screens. Its absurd I know, but here's how real that possibility is. This is the list of teams that must lose before a two loss team is in the game. and For the record, the two loss gold standard will be the highest ranked two loss team, Florida. So Imagine if the Gators win out with wins over Kentucky, South Carolina, UGA, FSU, and LSU(SEC-CG). Any team who with one loss who would look worse than that record doesn't have to lose twice, I'm looking at you Kansas.
Teams that need to Lose:

1Ohio State
2Ohio State
3BC
4BC
5Oklahoma
6LSU
7S. Florida
8S. Carolina
9Oregon
10Kentucky
11W. Virginia
12Cal
13Va Tech
14ASU
15USC
16Kansas
17Missiouri

17 games. With 6 weeks and three championship games left. I know it doesn't look good. Thats three losses per week. Although, three upsets a week is the pace we've been on.
And heres how the number shrinks:
Some losses are unavoidable. Anytime two of these teams play, a loss is guaranteed. So here are the games left with certain losses-

BC vs. VaTech (if VaTech wins, then they'll play again in the ACC-CG, and another loss is guaranteed.)
LSU vs. Kentucky/S. Carolina (SEC - CG)
Kansas vs. Missouri
Oklahoma vs. Kansas/Missouri (B12 -CG)

-Oregon vs. USC
-Oregon vs. ASU
-USC vs. Cal
-ASU vs. Cal
-ASU vs USC
(these five games count as two, because two of four teams are guaranteed to have 2 losses)

Thats 5 losses, which brings our total down to 12. Then you take away one, because there can be one team with one loss, So 11. (IF that team is an undefeated OSU/BC then its only 10). 11 losses in six weeks seems almost easy by this season's standards. And here are some of the games that could be one of the 11:

Ohio St. @Michigan or vs. Wisconsin or vs. Illinios or @Penn State
BC vs FSU or Miami or @ Clemson
Oklahoma @ Texas Tech
LSU vs Auburn or @ Alabama
S. Carolina vs Florida or @ Tennessee or vs Clemson
Kentucky vs Florida or @UGA or vs. Tennessee
Oregon vs. USC or vs ASU
Cal vs. USC or @ ASU
USC @Cal or @ Oregon or @ASU
ASU @ Oregon or vs. Cal or vs. USC
VaTech vs. FSU or Miami
West Virginia @Rutgers or vs. Lousiville or vs Miss St.
South Florida vs. Cincy or vs. Louisville
Missouri vs. Texas Tech @Kstate
Kansas vs. Anyone

Thats about 30 games where the underdog has a shot. So there you go - 11 games, 11 upsets, out of 30 or so good match-ups. And then you can start picturing real BCS meltdown. (Who's two losses are the best?). Also, even if the 2 loss team doesn't make it, you can start imagining Championship match-ups like Ohio State vs. Kansas - we're only 9 losses away from that - Or maybe lame rematches like Oregon vs Cal or South Carolina vs Kentucky - 10 losses away from each of those. Really, any of these 15 teams could be in against any one of the other 15. West Virginia vs. Arizona State ..... Oregon vs. Missouri .... VaTech vs. LSU .... BC vs. Kentucky - All just Ten Games (or less) away.

As I see it, the teams with the best shot at surviving are as follows:

Oklahoma
Oregon
Cal
LSU
Ohio State
BC
W. Virginia

Good luck to everyone. This season is truly a 13 week playoff. Double elimination playoff... maybe. maybe Triple elimination?

Can someone look up if any two loss team has ever won a title? My guess is one of those phony Bama titles had two losses, or its something Notre Dame did before WWII that they still brag about.

just wanted to get this out there before this weekend, I'm calling it 6 weeks in advance! I want credit when it happens dang it

South Florida Notes

We all knew. Deep down, or maybe even right under the surface, but somewhere, we all knew they weren't one of the two best teams in the country. We just hoped they could take us for a wild ride, and they did. Right up until just before halftime.

The Bulls are a good team, better than Rutgers even, but they made too many mistakes on offense and didn't adjust to the Rutger Defense. The Knights sent blitzes repeatedly the second half, and USF never adjusted and got Grothe out of the pocket, or hit quick slants to slow the oncoming Linebackers. And also this:

Here is the sequence: Just before Half. USF blocks fieldgoal. Fumbles it forward , recovers scores TD. Review. Penalty. No TD. USF stalls drive. Misses fieldgoal. Rutgers drives with under two minutes. Makes Field Goal. 10 Point swing.

While you can blame USF for not scoring and not stopping Rutgers, the penalty called is such a sham, a mockery, a shamackery. I hate this lame "No fumbling it forward rule" Why the hell cant' you fumble it forward? You don't have possession, Its a live ball, Rutgers can pick it up and run with it. So whats the problem? Also, It didn't look all that intentional. I know it happened twice, but the second one was clearly a good tackle popping it loose. But seriouly, why can't you fumble it forward in that situation? I know you can't intentionally if you have possesion, cause thats like a pass, but a slap at a live ball? Why NOT?

Also, this is irrelevant, but did you see the muffed punt? Why is that play whistled Dead? Let the fat lineman score, Its his only chance.

Anyway, Thanks USF, it was fun while it lasted

Games of the Week: Bullshype Week

Well I'm officially out of the prediction business. I'm .500 this year, and that includes predicting thing like Oklahoma over Tulsa, So really I just suck. I can't imagine anyone being any better though. There is just no way to see logic in this college football season. I normally love the unpredictability, but its out of control, way too chaotic, I can't make sense of anything. So no more predictions, they're worthless. I'll just tell you who I "want" to win. Thats usually my prediction anyway.

2South Florida @ Rutgers 7:30 Thursday (ESPN)
Game of the Day - (almost game of the week)
Tonite, the Bulls face their toughest remaining opponent. (of course, after this game the toughest remaining will be @ Uconn, then Cincy, then Louisville, so whatever) Rutgers is a well coached team that beat USF in the final seconds last year. Look for a close game, where the Bulls will have to protect the ball and win the turnover margin to get the W. Tonites forecast: Scattered showers, 65.... (where is the Degree button on this keyboard?) Not too bad for the Bulls. I'd like to say the Bulls know how to win on the road cause they beat Auburn, but anybody who watched that game knows that what USF did is not the conventional way to put away a team. But, This is a team on the rise, a team thats received a ton of hype the last few days, a team that should be ranked #1, a team with a badass QB, a team with a great coach, and a team I hope can continue to ride this wave. GO USF

21Tennesee @ Alabama 12:30 (LF)
The redneck bowl. Foxworthy would be proud.
This marks the third time this year that I'll be rooting for the Tide. Thats an unusually high number for a team with a coach I can't stand. For years my dad and I have said we kinda root for Bama whenever they aren't playing the Gators. I think this is a product of they're schedule more than anything. They rarely play the Gators and are constantly playing teams I hate and wish specific harm on. Well now we're at a crossroads with this Saban thing, I'm not sure what to do, but if I'd have to choose, then I pick Saban over that Fatass any day. Also I think this "Saban hate" thing is really overblown. I mean he left LSU for the pros after the title -nothing wrong there - And then he got sick of Miami after two years. Two Years?!?! I get sick of Miami after two days. He should be proud of himself for sticking it out. Roll Tide.

Miami @ FSU 3:30 (ABC)
I almost didn't even write this one down. It'd be a real accomplishment If you can sit through the whole game without gagging. I guarantee the ugliest game on Television. You know what I miss though, Since they moved this game to the middle of the season instead of the first week, I miss the guys on espn talking about how this game has national title implications. It was always good for a few laughs, then they'd play this ugly game of bad football, and the pundits would talk about what a defensive struggle it was. I miss that. Go to hell

15Florida @ 7Kentucky 3:30 (CBS)
Game of the Week

Let hope the coaches have a better gameplan than this. (this would have been funnier before LSU, when we had two straight games of the Tebow/Harvin Offense)
The Gators are coming off a bye week and Kentucky is coming off a Sloberknocker with LSU. Advantage UF.
The Gators are led by a Heisman candidate Sophmore QB, the Cats have a Heisman candidate Senior QB - Advantage UK.
Kentucky is banged up and missing their starting tailback, UF is just getting everyone healthy including #2 wideout Caldwell - Advantage UF.
UK beat LSU, UF didn't - Advantage UK.
UF won back to back basketball titles last year, UK did it in 1948 - Advantage UF.
The weather on Saturday is clear skies with temps in the low 70's - Advantage people in the stands.
UF has won the last 20 games agiainst UK, UK has lost those 20 games - Advantage UF.
We could go back and forth all day - but like I said, predictions are worthless, This is the best game of the day - Tune in, I guantee fireworks. GO Gators

17Auburn @ 4LSU 9:00 (ESPN)
Imagine this: After two weeks of close, physical games, LSU lets down their guard and Auburn wins in Baton Rouge, and takes the drivers seat in the SEC West with only UGA and Bama left on the schedule. Stranger things have happened, just about every weekend this year. Go Auburn

Monday Fallout - Trainwreck Week

Body Count:
LSU, Cal, Missouri, Cincinatti, Illinois, Wisconsin, FSU
also recieving votes: UConn, Miami

LSU Kentucky - This was the Best game of the year. The #1 team loses in a triple overtime seesaw battle. If your looking for a reason why, I haven't found many. LSU had a little hangover from last week - the TD before half, the lethargic D-line. But for the most part Kentucky looked awesome and took LSU's best shots and came out on top. Give the UK coaches a lot of credit, the offense kept LSU off balance with a ton of runs up the middle, a solid O-line, and Andre' Woodson. Woodson is the new Heisman front runner , which makes next week's game a Heisman Showdown(this years winner vs. Next years). So whats a Gator to think of this...

What this means for Gators:
I don't really know. We have to go to Lexington and do what the #1 team couldn't. Thank goodness we've had a week to prepare, and maybe UK will suffer the same or an even worse hangover than LSU had. Fact is They're Good, there's no denying it now. My words from two days ago go nicely with a side of asparagus and light sauvignon blanc. We can forget that game in Columbia right now, cause this one is just as tough. Using the transitive win/loss theory, and the fact that Vegas gives a 3 point edge to the home team, then:
LSU28 - UF24 =means LSU=UF+1 and LSU40(could have scored FG) - UK43 means LSU=UK then UK=UF+1 and thats not good.
but if home field is worth 5 then LSU=UF-1 and LSU=UK+1 then UF=UK +2
So UK>LSU>UF>UK makes no sense,
but this does - LSU>S.Caro.>UK>LSU
And all that means LSU=UK=S.Caro.=(hopefully)UF
Understand?

Cal blows it - Just when the #1 ranking was in sight they go and do the dumbest thing possible. Where to begin with the stupidity? The poor QB not throwing it away - Not saving a TimeOut - Starting this Freshman QB, when Longshore is walk the sidelines on his "hurt" ankle - DeSean Jackson's primadonna "ow I'm hurt" while we're losing and "I haven't made any big plays" Act. Whatever. They are still in it, cause everyone is gonna lose.
Oregon State may be my new favorite "other" team. The last few years they've knocked off Cal, USC, Cal, and Notre Dame . They'll never play the Gators. They're the Beavers. Whats not to Love?

Ohio State? Really? can someone please start a campaign to get USF the #1 ranking. Why is OSU any better? really, why? A win @ Washington? is that impressive? the rest of their wins are as follows: Kent State, Akron, Youngstown State, Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue. That qualifies as a #1 team? That sounds like a resume for the Emerald city Bowl. The only teams on that list better than UCF are Purdue and Washington. and UCF just lost by 52 points to USF. Lucky for us, OSU has to finish the season against the five best teams in the Big Ten: Mich st., Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan. However, its unlucky that all five of those teams have horrible problems and aren't very good. So heres my new #1:

USF is #1 - Heres my case: They're undefeated, a true accomplishment this season. They have two quality wins - @Auburn and vs. West Virginia. And... well... look who they're up against. The only other teams with a claim this week are OSU and BC. I've already covered OSU's lame resume, and BC's isn't any better. They've beaten Wake Forest and GaTech.... and.. yeah, thats it. Also they struggled with a D-1AA school in Umass and gave up 14 points to ND. USF also has the best shot at finishing Undefeated. Games left: @Rutgers, @Uconn, Cincy, and Louisville. When will they lose? (I know, I know, everyone will lose)

All One Losses - What this means is no one will be Undefeated. NO ONE. This will be the story for the next couple of weeks. All about how this will create udder chaos and arguing over who the two best one loss teams will be. But really, this nearly happens every year. Just last year, we were one OSU loss from it happening. One loss teams almost always have a shot at the title. So we should be fine, two one loss teams will emerge and we'll all be happy, Unless...

Just One One-loser, and many Two-losers -
Unless, they're aren't any ONE loss teams left. At this rate, only two or three teams will be left with One loss, so maybe there won't be an argument (ha) Or what I'm getting at, maybe a two loss team is the second best team at the end of it? Crazy you say? Look at this:
Heres what the top ten should look like on Monday:

1USF - Best 6-0 team thus far
2OSU - worst 6-0 opponents, worse than Kansas
3BC - somehow still undefeated, see ya in Blacksburg
4OU - back on track
5Oregon - looking very good
6LSU - one close hangover loss
7S. Carolina - only loss in Death Valley
8Kentucky - Great this week, not so much last week
9W. Virginia - Best looking Loss, but no quality wins
10VaTech - Looking better every week, only L @LSU
11Arizona State - not sure why no respect?
12Cal - Dumbest Loss of year
13USC - Worst looking one loss team
and then at #14 sit our fist 2 loss team - UF
15 Kansas -still not buying 6-0

By the end of the year these have to happen- Cal/USC/Oregon/ASU play five times=five losses. VaTech/BC play once, and then the ACC championship, so maybe twice. Kentuck/S. Carolina will have to play LSU in Atlanta and both have to play the Gators. OU has to play 6 more games, including their championship.

These Probably will happen: USF falls to Rutgers/Cincy/Louisville. Only one of Cal/USC/Oregon/ASU gets away with One loss. All SEC East teams have two losses.

Heres the likelyhood of every team finishing with two losses:

SEC - LSU with one loss plays a two loss team that Did beat them or nearly beat them on the road. LSU loses: 65% chance of happening

PAC-10 - the foursome (ASU/Cal/USC/Oregon) plays five games against each other. ASU/USC have 3 games each, so no way for them. Cal/Oregon will have to go 2-0 against USC/ASU. All have two losses: 50% chance of happening

Big East: USF and W. Virginia lose. Games vs. Rutgers/Cincy/Louisville remain for both: 75%

Big 12: OU loses again. anytime: 70% - maybe 80% this year

ACC: VaTech plays BC twice and one other upset leads to both having 2 losses: 99%

Big Ten: OSU loses twice vs. 5 teams that are better than any they've faced thusfar: 50%

None of that is ridiculous to believe in a normal year, and none of it would even be a "huge" upset like we've seen so many times this year. At his point the most unlikely thing to happen is OSU lose twice and the PAC-10 foursome all lose twice (even though there are still 5 losses guaranteed to happen to them). And if one of those scenarios doesn't play out, it doesn't matter, because two of them have to not play out for there to be a clear cut #1vs#2. So what if it all happens? What then? We'll be left with a group of two loss teams and maybe one One loss team and then it will become impossible to pick out the two. and Don't forget Hawaii either, who actually has the best shot at undefeated. The computers will put them ahead of a two loss team, despite not winning any credible games.

This scenario is the chaos that has to finish this chaotic season.
