South Florida Notes

We all knew. Deep down, or maybe even right under the surface, but somewhere, we all knew they weren't one of the two best teams in the country. We just hoped they could take us for a wild ride, and they did. Right up until just before halftime.

The Bulls are a good team, better than Rutgers even, but they made too many mistakes on offense and didn't adjust to the Rutger Defense. The Knights sent blitzes repeatedly the second half, and USF never adjusted and got Grothe out of the pocket, or hit quick slants to slow the oncoming Linebackers. And also this:

Here is the sequence: Just before Half. USF blocks fieldgoal. Fumbles it forward , recovers scores TD. Review. Penalty. No TD. USF stalls drive. Misses fieldgoal. Rutgers drives with under two minutes. Makes Field Goal. 10 Point swing.

While you can blame USF for not scoring and not stopping Rutgers, the penalty called is such a sham, a mockery, a shamackery. I hate this lame "No fumbling it forward rule" Why the hell cant' you fumble it forward? You don't have possession, Its a live ball, Rutgers can pick it up and run with it. So whats the problem? Also, It didn't look all that intentional. I know it happened twice, but the second one was clearly a good tackle popping it loose. But seriouly, why can't you fumble it forward in that situation? I know you can't intentionally if you have possesion, cause thats like a pass, but a slap at a live ball? Why NOT?

Also, this is irrelevant, but did you see the muffed punt? Why is that play whistled Dead? Let the fat lineman score, Its his only chance.

Anyway, Thanks USF, it was fun while it lasted
